Dome Network Cameras : How-To

Dome network cameras are becoming more and more popular. They are perhaps most useful in commercial settings, such as an office, building or store; however, they are also used to protect large homes, large boats, and other large mobile or personal settings. Unfortunately, these cameras can be difficult to set up and use. This leads to many people experiencing difficulty when putting together and operating these cameras. However, the difficulty of setting these cameras up is the great deal of protection they provide.

First determine if your camera is wired or wireless, as the setup for each is different. With a wired camera, you have to run cables from your computer to where the camera is to be installed. However, with a wireless camera, installation is much simpler. All you need to do is connect the wireless adapter to your computer. This in turn will promote communication between your computer and the camera. Wireless cameras are generally much more advisable. In the old days, wireless cameras weren’t as reliable, which in turn led to them not being as popular. Nowadays however, wireless cameras are almost every bit as reliable.

Obviously you are going to want to read the installation manual that comes with the book, however, this should give you an idea about what is required to set up one of these cameras. First figure out how many cameras your network will be able to support. Your network should be able to handle anywhere from 56mbps to 10gbps, depending on how many cameras you want. To give you an idea, 10gbps will be able to host about 1000 cameras.

When you are going to mount the camera, you need to be able to connect the camera to an electrical outlet. Now, connect the camera to your computer and run the installation software. When this is complete, disconnect the camera and place it within the range of your wireless router and electrical outlet. When installing a dome network camera the only things you will need are a drill, the camera’s mount, and the actual camera. First, pick a good location. Keep in mind what you want the camera to do. Try to minimize blind spots, or cover densely populated areas. Now to begin the actual placement of the cameras, take the drill and drill the holes that are required by the camera mount. Insert the mount into the holes you drilled and secure it. Next, place the camera in the dome and connect any wiring. If there is no wiring, skip that step. Make any necessary adjustments to the angle the camera is resting at. When all this is complete, it is time to connect your camera so you can see what the camera sees. Now you can begin trying out all the different features such as motion triggers, among others.

Now that you have successfully mounted, installed, and connected your cable to the internet, you are well on your way to a more secure office, home, or any other area.
