Product Review: Sony SNC-RZ50N

Ip Network Cam 26X Pan Tilt Zoom Ms Pc Card SlotSony SNC-RZ50N is packed with useful features that make it a great value for the price. Some of its features include PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) Capability, High Quality Images, Selectable Compression Formats, High Frame Rate, Dual Encoding Capability, Image Stabilizer, Day/Night, Alarm and Anti-Tampering Functions, Wireless and Audio Capability and User Friendly GUI, among others. Here is a more detailed review of the product’s features.

PTZ Capability

The Sony SNC-RZ50N’s pan range and tilt range is impressive at 340 degrees and 115 degrees respectively. It allows a wider area to monitor which is perfect for businesses. It also has good total zooming capability of 312x (26x optical and 12x digital) that allows user to zoom in and out without affecting the quality of image.

High Quality Images

Sony SNC-RZ50N can capture high-contrast images at crisp color even at a low light condition. When in the night mode, it is still able to operate even on conditions when visible light is absent to the naked eye. It has ¼-type CCD image sensor size which is more than sufficient to satisfy any users who access the monitoring applications remotely.
SNC-RZ50N’s ability to clearly capture moving objects may not be as impressive as other products in this price range but it sure is more than most surveillance cameras. It supports a maximum frame rate of 30 fps at an image size of VGA (640x480). The captured image has minimal blurring but is still clear enough even in a minimally lighted area.

Compression Formats

SNC-RZ50N supports JPEG, MPEG-4 and H.264. However, one of the things that this security camera falls short off is the inability for H.264 compressed video to be viewed through a browser.

Alarm Functions

This dome camera is superior to most CCTV when it comes to motion detection. Instead of comparing the current image to the previous image, it compares the current image to the last 15 frames. It also has object detection which can be useful in detecting suspicious objects left in a public place. The main drawback for this product is that both features cannot be used simultaneously.

Network Features

Maximum of 20 users can simultaneously access the SNC-RZ50N. This is a good amount for a camera in this price range. This can be especially useful in monitoring an outdoor area such as a busy street.

Audio Capability

One of SNC-RZ50N main selling points is its bi-directional audio. This means it is capable to get live audio feed from the area being monitored while being able to send a voice alert or announcement.
